If you're a Star Trek fan, you haven't seen the new movie yet, and you don't want to spoil anything, DO NOT READ THIS! However, if you'd like a little bit of warning about the movie, keep reading.
Star Trek takes 98% of everything that we all know and love about the franchise and wipes it clean! Seriously . . . just about everything has been undone. The only things that are safe from the permanent timeline changes is the Enterprise series and Ambassador Spock. Everything else never happens. No more Picard. No more Janeway. No more Sisko. Everything in the original series never happens. Vulcans are an endangered species. Pike is never horribly disfigured.
Now, don't get me wrong; the movie is good, and worth seeing. But, you'll have your heart ripped out left and right. I'm left pondering if a) the movie will be accepted by the fans as canon, and b) how Majel Barrett feels about all of this.
Now, if they make a second movie that goes back and fixes the timeline, I think everyone will be happier.
