In 2005, Mother Nature gave our town a whoopin' in the form of a freak storm. This year, she came back and graced us with several tornadoes. Yes, tornadoes in Southern California. It's not unheard of, but several (if you count the surrounding cities)?
Fortunately, I haven't seen any serious damage other than a set of derailed box cars just south of the Riverside National Cemetery. Mother Nature can be scary when she's on PMS!

As promised, here's one time-lapse video of the Photoshop work that I did for the Temple of the Forbidden Eye paper model. This particular video show the creation of a tile that loops around the temple's base.
A few more videos (and photos) can be found here, including a CG fly-through, recreating the Mara mural, and a continuation of the video, above.

I've been battling a cold for the past week, suffering through constant headaches, dizziness, clogged sinuses, and drowsiness. Despite it all, I've managed to push forward.
A few days ago, I managed to start on a new paper model. I'm having some problems with it, but that's most likely due to my lack of focus. So, instead of becoming frustrated with it and tossing the whole thing out, I work on it a little at a time, and try to approach it from a fresh perspective the next time. That's a good tip for any artists out there.
I also need to get some stuff sent to the Walt Disney Internet Group, but the only authorized DHL shipper in town moved. The map and address taped to the store's window was so poorly xeroxed that it couldn't be read. There are a couple of alternative shipping sites available, but they're a small drive away. With this cold, I'm not exactly motivated to go anywhere outside of town at the moment. Sigh.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to both the new Indiana Jones movie and the Indiana Jones shows at Disneyland. I won't be able to make it down there this summer, but I'm sure a ton of videos will pop up on YouTube.

One of my Flickr photos has been added (with permission) to the new Schmap California Guide Second Edition. The photo represents the Orange Empire Railway Museum, the "largest collection of railway locomotives, streetcars, passenger cars, freight cars and other train-related items dating back to the 1870s."

Are you tired of watching your Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) DVDs over and over again? Do you long for fresh heckling? Are you ready to slit your wrists if you have to sit through another really old (and bad) 'B' movie? Then head on over to Riff Trax!
Riff Trax is spearheaded by the creators of the MST3K, and features our old favorite riffers from the same show: Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo), and Bill Corbett (Crow). There are also guest riffers like "Weird Al" Yankovic, Mary Jo Pehl, Neil Patrick Harris, and even Chad Vader. These folks provided added hilarious commentary on some of the most popular movies (Transformers, I Am Legend, Cloverfield, etc.).
I watched Revenge of the Sith this morning, syncing the audio track on my cell phone (it's an mp3 player, too). It was a little weird listening to a modern movie be verbally ripped apart, but it was so very comforting to hear three recognizable voices doing it. It was like watching a brand-new episode of MST3K . . . only without the black silhouettes overlaid on the movie. I do miss that.
One other odd thing that will take some getting used to is the disembaudio. The disembaudio is a character (of sorts) that will occasionally speak a short line of dialog from the movie. If the audio track is synced up correctly with the DVD, the disembaudio voice should overlap with the actor's voice. I had no problem with syncing.
The riff track can be downloaded as an mp3 (NTSC & PAL usually available), or you can rent a movie with the audio track already synced. I prefer to download it and own it, usually only costing $3-4.
These audio files are hilarious! If you're a Mystie (MST3K fan), you HAVE to check this site out. I'm sticking with the Nelson, Murphy, & Corbett riffers for now. When I get the courage to try different people, I'll move on to others.

I FOUND IT! I found it . . . I found it . . . I found it! Last night, just before I went to bed, I found the onion ring recipe that I've been missing for the last few years. It's simply the best, and I'll have to make a batch soon.
Ingredients/tools:
- Deep Fryer at 375° (optional, but best)
- Clean Oil
- Tongs or Fryer Basket
- 2 Large Bowls/Containers
- White or Yellow Onion (I think one is sweeter than the other)
- Eggs
- Milk
- 1 1/4 cups Wheat Flour
- 1 1/4 teaspoons Salt
- 1 1/4 teaspoons Onion Powder
- 3/4 teaspoon Dry Mustard
- 1 teaspoon Paprika
- 1 1/4 teaspoons Garlic Powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoons Black Pepper
Cooking:
Making onion rings is VERY messy, so be prepared to get your hands dirty!
Stir the dry ingredients together in a bowl to make the dry mix. Mix an equal amount of eggs and cups of milk (i.e. 4 eggs + 4 cups of milk) in a bowl to make the batter. Peel, cut, and separate your onion into rings. Larger rings are better; they take less time to make. Dip a single onion ring into the batter, coating all sides, then immediately transfer to the dry mix. Make sure that you coat the entire onion ring with the dry mix; you'll have to work fast so that the batter doesn't drip off. Repeat the process of batter and dry mix, creating a second coating. Place the onion ring onto a plate, and start another onion ring.
When you have enough onion rings, cook them in a deep fryer (about 3 minutes or so). Watch the color; you don't want them to get too dark. When you take them out of the fryer, they will continue to darken, so don't leave them in too long. You can also bake the onion rings at 375° for 30 minutes if you prefer.
The onion rings taste best while they're still hot/warm. I suggest placing the cooked onion rings onto a pan and placing them into an oven set on "warm" while you cook the others and/or the main dish (burgers, hot dogs, etc.)
Enjoy!

With the new Indiana Jones movie coming out, I've been getting swept away with all of the hoopla. I'm a fan of the films and the Disney attractions. And what better way to get me even more excited than combining the two?
I just discovered that Disneyland will be having live-action events that take place all over Adventureland, starring none other than Indiana Jones. Even the Jungle Cruise and the Indiana Jones Adventure will be getting in on the action. And all of this includes guest interaction, solving clues and whatnot.
The only downside is that Adventureland is bound to become packed with people waiting to see the stunts, even if they do mostly take place on the rooftops. That section of the park is a nightmare on a crowed day!
